Introduction:
About the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society
Established in 23rd May 2000, Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society is the first businesswomen’s society in the Gulf
Region (GCC). Founded by 16 Bahraini businesswomen: Sheikha Aisha Bint Salman Al Khalifa, Sheikha Aisha
Bint Ali Al-Khalifa, Sheikha Mariam Bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Sheikha Mariam Bint Hamed Al Khalifa, Ahlam Yousef
Janahi, Donya Ahmed Al Wazzan, Fatima Hassan Jawad, Hayfa Majed Aljeshi, Huda Mohamed Al Saie, Layla
Yousef Al Moayyed, Mona Yousef Al Moayyed, Nawal Ahmed Kamal, Naeema Othman Albalooshi, Sabah Hassan
Jawad, Sheikha Salman Al Zayani, Seham Ali Fakhro. The establishment of the Society was in response to an
idea called by Sheikha Lulwa Bint Mohamed Al Khalifa. Further, Her Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim
Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty Kind Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Kingdom of Bahrain, President of
Supreme Council for Women was the First Honorary President of the Society. Today, Her Highness Sheikha Thajba
Bint Salman Al Khalifa, is the Honorary President of Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society. The Society is under the
umbrella of Ministry of Labour and Social Development. It was developed with the shared aim of promoting women
empowerment and entrepreneurship in local, regional and international commercial and economic activities. The
society endeavors to equip businesswomen with knowledge and skills they need to develop their business, while
facilitating their business platform locally and internationally. Further, the society ensures the businesswomen
representation on leadership positions and board of directors of private and government organizations. As such,
the Society works closely with ITPO Bahrain- United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO),
Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Tamkeen, Economic
Development Board (EDB), other related ministries and different organizations to actively participate in the country’s
society, economic and cultural events. The Society not only works to support the success of Bahraini women
locally, but also works to facilitate their exposure and expansion as business leaders internationally through the
building of relationships with similar societies in the GCC, Arab countries and across the globe. Today, the society
has active prominent members from various Small Medium Enterprises(SMEs), Corporate and Heavy industries:
Supply Chain & Logistics, Innovation & Technology, Telecommunication equipment, Manufacturing, Architecture,
Real Estate Development, Finance, Food & Beverage, Management Consultancy, Construction, Healthcare,
Education, Re-export, Law, Training, Graphic design, Events management, and Fashion & Design, etc...
